NOTE: I carried the inside out throughout all the projects below, however if you want to get to card and envelop it is at the bottom of the post.
I have dipped my toe into the world of hybrid card making and below are the results. I have a friend’s birthday for which I wanted to make a gift and when I saw the colors and design of this paper I knew it was her. I started with the digital kit and tweaked and changed it quite a bit. The first big change was changing the background color to something that better suited my friend as well as to match cardstock so I didn’t have to print so much paper. I wanted to change and add some text so I found a similar font and made my revisions and additions. I scaled and changed the images to fit what I needed. That is what is so great about working with digital designs and integrating them with traditional and tactical papercrafting elements to create your unique card or gift.
My inspiration came from various sources, some from Mish Mash and her notebooks she is always making and the gifts sets she has shared in the past. I also love office supplies and binder clips are one of my favorites.
I started with the grocery list notebook. I’m a saver and have saved the chipboard backs of notepads for years (they used to be heavier than they are now). I cut the saved chipboard to 3 ½ by 8 ½ and covered it with printed paper on the front and back and used PTI’s Chocolate on the inside. I made a sleeve to secure the notepad inside: I cut a 3” wide piece of cardstock, adhered it to the outside edge of the inside back, slide in the notepad, then adhered it to the inside edge, and finally trimmed the paper to fit the back. Oh yeah before adhering the 3” cardstock I punch a half an oval out of the top of the cardstock to help with inserting the notepads. The top of the notepads are covered with blue cardstock trimmed with a scallop punch. I put it all together with Zutter’s Bind It All.
Binder clips: I was looking for white medium binder clips and couldn’t find them but found all kind of different colors at Office Depot and the blue worked great. I made the covers from the digital kit but you could stamp them just as easily. The size for a medium clip is 1 ¼ wide by 2 inches. I then used score tape to adhere the cardstock to the clip--3 pieces, one each on the front and back and one on the top. (If you look closely you will see two marks on each binder, I've been racking my brain and finally my sister figure it out. The wires mark the clip when they flip back.)
The Recipe Cards were modified slightly. I changed the font to be consistent with the Grocery List notebook and I changed the order of the text. I thought the recipe title should be first instead of who the recipe is from. PTI has great recipe cards that could be used as well.
Cookbook Bookmark: Size – 2 ¼ wide by 5.5 I mixed the blue and brown cardstock to create 6 bookmarks with rounded corners. I added white PTI Cardstock with lines drawn on it for note taking, size 2 by 5. The bookmark is topped with a 2 inch Scallop punched in contrasting paper, then a 1 ¾ circle punched in the same color as the bookmark base, finally a 1 ½ inch punched in PTI white cardstock with the words printed prior to punching. I embellished the bottom of the bookmark by adding a die cut border to the coordinating cardstock that worked to draw colors to the bottom of the bookmark, but pattern paper would work too.
Card – White cardstock to make a 5 x 7 card. Scallop punch of Blue Cardstock. 2 inch wide PTI Chocolate cardstock stamped in Versamark with the same image that is on the inside of the card and the envelope.. Image is printed from the digital kit and Happy Birthday is stamped. I added 3 brown pearls, 2 on top of existing image and one covers an ink smear by me. (Someone on the many blogs I read mentioned a few months ago about embrace imperfection. I have taken that on as my motto). The interior of the card has a sentiment from PTI’s Birthday Basics and a leaf stamp that I picked up along the way that I thought mixed in well.
Now that I have done this once I will be making many of these little gift kits in many different colors.
